Ride the Lakes Region Explorer

The Lakes Region Explorer provides Monday through Friday bus service along Route 302 between Bridgton and Portland. Beginning in 2020, seasonal Saturday service will be offered between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Click here to download the brochure and schedule.

*Where indicated, Northbound/Southbound (NB/SB) stops are located on either side of Route 302 so the bus can avoid left turns in traffic.

Bus Stops

Look for Lakes Region Explorer bus stop signs at these designated locations. Please help the Explorer stay on schedule by being at your stop 10 minutes before departure time. This will help ensure you do not miss your ride and help us board in a timely manner.

Pricing

  • One-Way Trip: $3
  • Seniors 65+: $2
  • Students (w/ID): $2
  • People w/Disabilities: $2
  • Kids 5 & Under: Free
  • 10-Ride Pass: $25
  • Monthly Pass: $50

Passes can be purchased from the bus driver and at the RTP office (127 St. John Street Portland). Cash, check and money order only.

Free Transfers to Portland and South Portland Buses

Ask the Lakes Region Explorer driver for a free transfer ticket when you board. Give the transfer ticket to the driver when you board the METRO & South Portland City Bus Service (SPBS).

  • Transfers must be used on the same day, on the next available bus going to your destination.
  • If you are transferring from a METRO/SPBS bus to the Lakes Region Explorer, the fare is only $1.50 with a METRO or South Portland City Bus Service transfer ticket.

Track the Bus

The Explorer is now equipped with real-time GPS tracking technology. There are two ways you can see exactly where the bus is at any time.

  1. Navigate to www.lakesregionexplorer.org on any web browser, or
  2. Download the RideSystems app and search for “RTP Lakes Region Explorer.”

Get Notifications

Sign up for Text Alerts by texting “LREXP” to 41411. RTP will text you if the bus is running more than 15 minutes late.

Free Passes

Available to residents of Bridgton, Casco, Naples, Raymond, and Windham with financial need. Click here to download the Pass Program flyer, with contact information for partners including the Bridgton Community Center.

ADA Accessibility

The Explorer is accessible. It is equipped with a passenger lift that can be used by persons with wheelchairs, walkers or persons with disabilities that may require on-boarding assistance. Space is provided on each bus for two persons in wheelchairs.

Bike Racks

The Explorer has a bike rack that can accommodate two bikes. Click here to see a video on how to load your bike on the bus.

No Holiday Service

The Explorer does not run on the following holidays: New Year’s Eve, New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Patriots Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving & the Friday after, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.

Weather Cancellations

RTP provides safe service during typical Maine weather conditions, but if the weather is severe, change in service will be posted on our Facebook page, WCSH6.com & 13 or you can call 774-2666
